Classes - Online tutoring for SAT ACT - Write Start Prep

CLASSES

SAT AND ACT GROUP CLASSES

Write Start Prep offers group classes to prepare students for the SAT and ACT Exams.  These group classes are held online through Zoom, focus exclusively on the English sections, and range from 6 to 10 students per group.  In the SAT and ACT Group Classes, I explain the test design, strategies for reading analytically, the grammar and editing criteria, as well as question/passage identification and tips on pacing.  Each of these components is illustrated with real test questions.  The SAT Group Course covers the SAT Reading and Writing sections and consists of 8 hours of instruction over the course of 4 weeks.  The ACT Group Course covers the ACT English and Reading sections and also consists of 8 hours of instruction over 4 weeks.

The advantage of a group class is that it provides a deep dive into the test’s structure and logic while also being cost-effective.  Students will learn the test design, key reading strategies, and advanced English content for a fraction of the cost of individual tutoring.  Students will also have access to a PowerPoint summary of the key strategies from each meeting.

It’s important to note that Group Classes shouldn’t be seen as a substitute for individual tutoring.  After all, working one-on-one with a tutor allows students to develop and practice a comprehensive test strategy that is uniquely suited to their goals and academic strengths. But, speaking as a tutor, I have seen many students who begin individual tutoring without a strong sense of the test’s design or what they need to focus on, and it takes time to cover that ground and develop that focus. In this regard, a group class can provide a useful starting point for individual tutoring, providing students with a broad knowledge of the test and specific content areas to focus on.

OUR RECORD OF SUCCESS

We work with students of all abilities on the SAT and ACT, including students who require accommodations, and we have an excellent record of success with students at all levels. While student scores can plateau and drop slightly between one test and the next, more than 90% of our students increase their scores. On average our students see their scores on the SAT Reading and Writing rise by 40-50 points and their scores on the ACT English and Reading rise by 2-3 points.
