Mission Statement

Write Start Prep is a tutoring and test prep company based in Sherman Oaks, California. We guide students to become active readers and writers, helping them to stand out on standardized tests and in their college essays in order to gain admission to the schools of their choice. We work with local students in-person or online, and, through online sessions, we work with students across the country.

Educational Background

Dr. Kevin Cooney, the principal educator for Write Start Prep, earned his Ph.D. in English literature from UCLA in 2010. As a professor, Dr. Cooney taught literature and composition courses at UCLA, Temple University, Drexel University, and Queens College, CUNY. He has also taught 11th-grade English and AP US History at Santa Monica Catholic High School. Drawing on more than a decade of teaching experience, Dr. Cooney guides students to improve their scores on the SAT and ACT English sections as well as to plan and revise their college essays.
